- what is kasuri? -
It is a traditional Japanese textile characterized by pattern.Using yarn dyed beforehand, weave up, making a pattern.
Kurume Kasuri is said that in the latter half of the Edo period it began with a "12-year-old" girl named Inoue Den. A small girl in the rural area has created a textile technique that continues to now.
Originally it has long been loved as a casual wear for ordinary people regardless of age and sex. It is said that Japan's novelist "Dazai Osamu" liked it as well.
However, with the transition of the era such as the civilization of the Meiji era, the Western wearing after the war, high economic growth, the number of people wearing Kusuri Kimono decreased sharply.
The demand that "the ordinary people's casual wear = Kasuri kimono" decreases, the Kurume Kasuri disappeared. Around the Showa 50's many weaving clothes were discontinued.
Along with such changes in the times,a kasuri was newly created, as not Kimono but a shirt and pants and so on.
A single Kasuri product will be completed after thirty steps, about two or three months. By manual craftsmanship, it creates a unique taste depth in the fabric.
